Cross-Country Bike Tour
My name is Cengiz Akinli and I'm riding my bike from Boston, MA to Gulfport, MS to let people know that the recovery from Hurricane Katrina still has a long way to go. Coastal Mississippi has long lived in the shadow of the city of New Orleans, and the drama that occured there after the storm further highlighted this fact.

That is why we have focused our attention on the historicaly blighted communities of Turkey Creek and North Gulfport in Mississippi, where we run a volunteer camp built by volunteers from Virginia Tech in cooperation with Montgomery County and Turkey Creek Community Initiatives, a local community advocacy non-profit.

This website details this ride and our efforts to bring volunteers back to Mississippi.
